The Impact of Five Star Volunteers in Our Communities and Beyond

Corporate philanthropy is a powerful way for organizations to give back to the community, demonstrate their commitment to social responsibility, and make a meaningful impact. But it’s not just about donations or corporate initiatives—it’s also about the individuals behind the company who volunteer their time, skills, and energy to support causes they believe in.
On International Corporate Philanthropy Day, we celebrate the dedicated volunteers from Five Star who go above and beyond to serve others in their communities and beyond.
Ana Smith - Professional Development Specialist Ana Smith has been an active volunteer for over two decades, with a heart for serving children and families. Ana’s journey of volunteering began at a young age, inspired by her parents' altruistic example. She’s a year-round volunteer with Operation Christmas Child (OCC), Indian Creek Baptist Camp (ICBC), and Embrace Church in Evansville. Through these organizations, Ana demonstrates God’s love in practical ways, from packing shoeboxes full of gifts for children worldwide through OCC to supporting local church programs that help strengthen communities.
OCC’s mission, “Let the children come to Me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God” (Mark 10:14, ESV), is central to Ana’s volunteer work, offering children in need around the globe not only material gifts but the chance to experience God’s love. Similarly, Ana’s work with ICBC and Embrace Church is a continuation of her lifelong commitment to service, helping others grow spiritually and personally.

The event, which honors and supports first responders, has a special place in Brandy’s heart due to her family’s strong support for these everyday heroes. Brandy contributed her expertise to the event this year by helping revamp their website to showcase the event’s supporters and donors. Her work is a testament to the importance of community support and the impact volunteers can have in making organizations more efficient and visible.

Greg Simmons - Account Executive For Greg Simmons, volunteering is about making a direct impact in his community. Greg has been involved with Sleep in Heavenly Peace for two years, an organization that provides beds to children who otherwise may not have one. He believes that “helping students learn” begins with a good night’s rest, and his work with this organization allows him to create lasting change for children in need. Volunteering with his son has also allowed Greg to share the joy of giving back to the next generation, instilling in him a sense of community and service.

Through this program, Sean and other volunteers provide food items to children who might otherwise go without over the weekend. Starting as a volunteer teacher at Throop, Sean now serves as the president of the committee, overseeing fundraising, food orders, and organizing packing events. His leadership and dedication have made a significant impact on children in the Paoli community, ensuring they have food when they need it most.
